Day 5 – Authority Rooted in Obedience
Guiding Principle: Jesus discipled from obedience to the Father, not personal ambition.
Scriptures
John 5:19
19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.
John 8:28–29
28 So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. 29 The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.”
Matthew 7:29
29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
Prayer
- Thank God that Jesus demonstrated that obedience to the Father even in most difficult situations is possible. Pray that God will forgive us for the times we have disobeyed Him in the mission of winning souls and discipling believers.
- Jesus only did what He saw His Father do. Pray that that we will be so in tune with the Father that we will be able to see what the Father is doing. Pray that we will not entertain distractions in our lives that want us to lose focus of what the Father is doing.
- Jesus did nothing on His own; He waited for instruction. Pray that we will make it our goal to do nothing on our own but to closely follow God’s instructions in everything concerning our lives.
- Jesus’ authority came from always doing what pleased the Lord; God never left Him alone. Pray that we will understand what pleases the Lord and determine to always do that; a guarantee that He would never leave us alone.
- Jesus knew His Father was always with Him, hence His authority in whatever He did. Pray that we will always be conscious of God’s presence so that we will disciple with authority.
Declaration:
- We declare that ICA is an obedient church, doing what we see the Father do and aiming to please Him in whatever we do.
