Praying for Gabon (West Africa)

For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.” Isaiah 9:2

Gabon is a resource-rich nation, yet many people continue to experience poverty because of corruption, weak infrastructure, and inequality. Operation World highlights that Christian identity is widespread, but traditional spiritist beliefs and practices remain deeply rooted beneath the surface of Catholicism, Protestantism, and even Islam. Many people still consult medicine men, use charms, seek ancestral spirits, or engage in occult practices. Some Christians may face academic or professional disadvantage when they refuse to participate in these practices. The prayer burden is therefore for true freedom in Christ, biblical discipleship, purity of worship, and a stronger gospel witness among unreached peoples, Muslims, and communities in the interior regions of the country.

1. Pray that the Lord will deliver Gabon from spiritual bondage, syncretism, witchcraft, ancestral worship, and fear of spirits. Ask that many Gabonese will turn from idols to serve the living and true God, and that Christ alone will be honoured as Lord.

2. Pray for believers in Gabon to remain faithful to Jesus even when they face pressure, exclusion, or loss of opportunities because of their faith. Ask God to strengthen them with courage, holiness, discernment, and deep confidence in the power of the gospel.

3. Pray for the Church in Gabon to be renewed in biblical truth, sound teaching, prayer, and discipleship. Ask God to protect believers from prosperity teaching and false hope, and to raise pastors and leaders who shepherd God’s people with integrity and humility.

4. Pray for the gospel to reach Muslims, the least evangelized peoples, and communities in the east and northeast of Gabon. Ask the Lord to raise workers, plant strong churches, provide Scripture and Bible teaching through media, and bring lasting transformation to families and communities.
