The Lord Of All
As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all),God sent his word to the Jewish people first, announcing the wonderful news of hope and peace through Jesus, the Anointed One, the Lord of all. Acts 10:36; ESV &TPT
Acts 10: 34-36; Romans 10: 8-17; Eph. 1:20-23
Recurrent Thought
Today, we have an urgent call to recognize, accept and demonstrate that Jesus is Lord of All
The Church is God’s agent for declaring His love for Humanity. As already intimated, the church, whose composition is both Jews and Gentiles, is a community that has experienced God’s mercy and Grace and in turn, it is expected to tell others to experience the same. The text of our interest, shows that Jesus is Lord of All, meaning the people who come to know him, essentially the church, should know him as Lord. This descriptive title "Lord of All" was used in the context that Jesus is both the Lord of the Jews, and the Gentiles. This incredible title is framed in the context of winning all nations, all peoples, to the Lord Jesus Christ. This title is used in this text by Peter and also later by Paul in the writings to the Romans in 10:12 And the Jew is not different from the Greek: for there is the same Lord of all, who is good to all who have hope in his name. One thing that should be observed is that the word All used in this text is the absolute All meaning not only being primary but All for everyone and everything. If it was being used only for categories, the word “both” would suffice, but yet the scriptures use the absolute All for this.
Here are four related truths about the Lord of All
- Jesus Christ is the Lord Because He Overcame
- His Lordship is Based on His Victory over Death and Evil Principalities (Phi. 2:5-11)
- Christ is Lord over all because in his human nature he accomplished perfect obedience, won salvation for us, and was given universal dominion as a reward (Eph. 1:20-23)
- After conquering death, Christ was enthroned at the right hand of the Father (Eph. 1:20)
- As Lord, all authority in heaven and on earth has been bestowed on him (Matthew 28: 18-20).
- His Lordship is Confirmed in People who are Discipled
- There is a time when Jesus Lordship would be forced on everyone, but today, all people are persuaded to accept him freely
- The people under his Lordship are all those who believe in him, are discipled and follow him diligently.
- The desire of Jesus is to Lead and have Lordship over people who willingly follow.
- To “make disciples” is to call people to commit to Jesus as Master and Lord
- His Lordship is Demonstrated by Our Obedience to His Commands
- Jesus decried in Luke 6:46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?
- The followers of Jesus affirm his Lordship in their lives by obeying him.
- If he is not Lord of Your Life, he is not Lord at All
- Disciples are those who observe, everything they are taught and follow (Math. 28: 20)
- In the Acts 10 narrative, Peter reluctantly obeyed to go to Cornelius. Then confirmed that Jeus is Lord of All!
- When we disobey his commands in every area of our lives, it means we are not honoring him as Lord.
- His Lordship is Extended when We Go and Make Disciples (Math. 28:20)
- Going means movement. We move from where we are!
- Going also means taking something with us. In this sense, we go with the Gospel. We go with the Good News of the Kingdom to the whole world.
- Giving someone an opportunity to hear the Gospel is granting them access to the Lordship of Jesus.
- We are now shown the Missional Sequence of Preaching the Gospel: First, People call on Jesus when they know and believe he can save them; second, people only call when they have heard the gospel; third people only hear when one preaches; fourth preachers will go and preach when sent by God and the Church
- Beautiful are the Feet of those who bring Good News. Going out may be difficult but it is beautiful. #
- As in the Possession of the Promised Land, they were told wherever their feet stepped the same would become their land; similarly wherever the beautiful feet of Gospel preachers go, the Kingdom of God is confirmed.
Conclusion
Jesus is Lord of All whether we recognize him or not, he is still Lord. However, for believers, it is paramount that we don’t just accept him but we work towards his desires of establishing his authority in all and above all
