John 7:37-39, John 14:26, John 16:4-15, Acts 1:8, Romans 15:18-20

A look at Genesis reveals the involvement of the Holy Spirit in the creation of the earth. The Bible clearly shows that the power of the Holy Spirit is involved in every creative work of God. The truth of the matter is that the Holy Spirit has not lost His creative ability. (Gen 1:2).

Throughout all ages, the Holy Spirit has been at work recreating the lives of human beings to sanctify them for God. The same Spirit at work in the first creation is also involved in the re-creation of humanity (Titus 3:4-6).

The Holy Spirit is God; and he deliberately works for the transformation of humanity.

Jesus clearly put emphasis on the coming and working of the Holy Spirit in the Church. 

When we read the scriptures there two major ways the Holy Spirit is involved in the lives of human beings. First, he is a constant helper in the personal transformation of believers. Second, he is involved in empowering the believer for the work of witnessing for God.

First Major Work of the Holy Spirit in the Believer

The Holy Spirit comes to champion Personal Transformation.

He comes to help produce the Character of Christ in us. The fruit of the Holy Spirit reveals the character of God (Gal 5:22-23).

1. The Holy Spirit comes to REGENERATE our Spirit (Titus 3:5).
2. The Holy Spirit CONVICTS us (John 16:7-11)
3. He RENEWS our lives. We have no excuse for living powerless lives. (Rom 8:11).
4. The Holy Spirit TEACHES us (John 14:26). It is the Holy Spirit who reveals   the plan and purpose of God for our   lives (John 16:13).
5. The Holy Spirit GUIDES us (John 16:12-15)
6. He COMFORTS our lives. He has has been sent to be our Comforter.

We have a partner who has come to renew, transform and help us in the process of sanctification. Therefore, we need to tenaciously partner with Him daily in our lives. Unfortunately, Pentecostals only relate with the Holy Spirit as the “force, or power for miracles.” We need to remember that he is a PERSON interested in the quality of our lives. He is the Refiners Fire to purge our lives.

Second Major Work of the Holy Spirit in the Believer

Second, he is involved in empowering the believer for the work of witnessing for God.

1. The Holy Spirit comes as the Superintendent of the Harvest therefore he comes to EMPOWER US (Acts 1:8).
2. The Holy Spirit gives the ability for effective Preaching and witnessing.
3. It is the Holy Spirit who draws people and gives understanding to people when the Word of the Lord is preached (Acts 2:38). He convicts people: concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment.      
4. He EQUIPS various members of the Body of Christ with various GIFTS to enable them to do the work of God. Therefore, members of the Body of Christ have both natural and spiritual gifts to help them minister (Acts 13:2-4).
5. The Holy Spirit through his UNCTION PERFORMS MIRACLES, which are in fact, the credentials of the Messiah (Luke 4:18)

Important Observations

1. The Holy Spirit indwells every believer.
2. The Holy Spirit fills believers  in a subsequent experience to Salvation to empower them for the mission of God
3. God can grant these experiences simultaneously
4. There is no prerequisite except being thirsty for Him (John 7:37).

Conclusion

The believer’s life is not possible without the work of the Spirit. Whether the believer knows (conscious of) it or not, the Holy Spirit is ever-present to help them grow into a strong devoted follower of Christ.

The Believers ministry grows stronger with the Subsequent Experience of Spirit Baptism
