Stay Focused

Key Reference Scripture
Habakuk 2:2 - 3
“Write the vision …Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come.”

Recurrent Thought
The sustenance of a vision to the time of harvest needs active focus and reinvigoration.

The Principle of Focus and Harvest

Every harvest begins with a seed, and ever seed requires time, focus, and endurance. Many people receive a vision, but few stay focused long enough to see the harvest. Distractions, delays, discouragement, and detours threaten God-given dreams.

Thesis: A sustained focus on God’s vision is essential to reaping the harvest.

THEME 1: Don’t let delays redefine the dream/vision (Focus Despite Delay and Injustice - Gen. 37-50

Joseph received a clear vision early in his life, but the path was painful (Pit -> Potiphar’s house -> Prison -> Palace).

He refused to abandon his dream due to:

  1.  Betrayal by family
  2.  False accusation
  3.  Forgotten seasons
  4.  Joseph stayed faithful in every season, not just the promised one

Focus Lesson:

  • Vision must be stronger than circumstances
  • Your harvest may be delayed, but it is not denied

Harvest Outcome

  1. Preservation of nations
  2.  Restoration of family
  3. Fulfillment of God’s original dream

THEME 2: Don’t come down from the wall (Focus Despite Distraction and Opposition).

Nehemiah had a specific vision: rebuild Jerusalem’s wall.

  • Faced mockery, intimidation, internal fatigue, and false accusations
  • Distractions: External opposition (Sanballat, Tobiah); Internal discouragement
  • Refused to lose focus or compromise the vision

Focus Lesson:

  • Not every invitation deserves your attention
  • Focus requires saying no to good things to finish the God thing

Harvest Outcome

  1. Wall rebuilt in 52 days
  2. National restoration
  3. Spiritual renewal among the people

THEME 3: Press on until the harvest is complete (Focus Despite Pressure and Pain).

Phil. 3:13-14

“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead…”

Paul had a clear vision: Preach Christ and finish the race.

  • Faced imprisonment, beating, opposition, and abandonment

He maintained focus by:

  1. Letting go of the past
  2. Fixing his eyes on the eternal prize

Paul understood that temporary suffering produces eternal harvest.

Focus Lesson:

  • You cannot move forward while staring backward
  • Vision requires endurance beyond comfort
  • Eternal perspective present perseverance

Harvest Outcome

  1. Faith planted across the Roman world
  2. Letters that continue to produce spiritual fruit
  3. A finished race and a kept faith

THREE PRACTICAL EXHORTATIONS

  1. Write the vision - Make it clear and measurable (Hab. 2:2)
  2. Work the vision - Faith without works is dead (James 2:17)
  3. Wait with Faith - Delay does not cancel destiny (Gal 6:9)

Closing scripture

Gal. 6:9

Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart

Altar Time

  1. What vision has God given you that you are tempted to abandon?
  2. Where have distractions or delays weakened your focus?
  3. Pray for renewed clarity, endurance, and faith to reach the harvest
