Kingdom Minded

Introduction

The bible in the book of John 18:36 shows us that Jesus came to manifest and for an agenda of the kingdom which he belonged to. In Mathew 6:33, he admonishes us to seeks that kingdom first. In the Old Testament, Haggai 1:1–3 captures this truth powerfully. The Lord rebuked His people for building fine houses for themselves while His house lay in ruins. They were not kingdom minded.

What Does It Mean to Be Kingdom Minded?

To be Kingdom minded means to is to be conscious of God’s agenda, wherefore we live for a purpose greater than ourselves.

Every kingdom has its own agenda, and our Kingdom, the Kingdom of God, is no different. Our Kingdom’s Agenda;

  • To see all people saved and come to the knowledge of Christ (1 Timonthy 2:4)
  • To proclaim good news to the poor, freedom for the captives, and healing for the broken (Luke 4:18).

As God is advancing his agenda, for every task he desires to accomplish he’ll send his word (Psalms 107:20, John 1:15,12, 6) and at most all the times he will send a man as a carrier of that word.  God has an agenda for this country, we have to align with His purpose and participate to see the fruition of his agenda.

How to be kingdom minded? First, you must understand that.

(1) You have a place and role in this kingdom

  • It’s important to understand the kind which we were created after (Gen 1:26 -27). In Genesis we see a conversation between the Godhead about creating man in the Godhead image (Gen 1:26 -27). Though we sinned and fall short of that Image, but the work of Jesus on the Cross brings us back to that image. You are a son; you are a God. You are not an ordinally person by design. 1 peter 2:9.
  • If you consider someone to be special, they’ve simply believed this truth for a long time that its evident outwardly in their lives, you too can believe, and it will be evident to yourself and other people too.
  • Strive to have a personal revelation of who you are in God. (1 john 4:17)
  • It’s not normal for a Christians life not to change having sat under Gods word for a long time. Let the word of God have a premium in your life.
  • 1 Peter 2:9; shows us that we are special yes, but we have the responsibility; to set forth wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. That’s Gods agenda!
  • 1 John 2:12-14; the apostle john writes to both children and the spiritually mature, in verse 15 he advises them to not set the affection on things of the world but the kingdom, in other words to be kingdom minded.
  • Being a son means you have every potential to become anything of the father, don’t let that potential just be buried in you.
  • Desire to grow and become an active participant of Gods agenda. If you want to grow and become influential in Gods kingdom, God is no respecter of person he will use you.
  • Recognize that you are an important function part of Gods kingdom; Give it your best, your lack of involvement affects the efforts of others.
  • We should leave this house with a wholesomeness of responsibility!

(2) God wants to share his burdens with you

  • As we quest to see Gods agenda to be fulfilled, we all have different types of roles and responsibilities in this vast agenda, in some in the various mountains of influence, which are Religion, Family, Education, Media, Arts and Entertainment, Government and business.
  • Burdens aren’t just wishes; but heavy and desperate desires God deposits in our hearts, which alter the way live and interact with the world around us.
  • Through burdens, God gives us a glimpse, sometimes a full picture of what he wants to achieve with our lives.
  • If you don’t have an idea of what that could be in your life, ask him, he will tell you. If he is yet to respond; start with the things everyone is required to do; but don’t sit down.
  • Throughout scripture, we see that every time God first interacted with a man, he shared with him his burdens.

No man can arrive at a future he cannot see, nor is he prepared for.

God starts sharing these burdens with you and start training you accordingly.

Characteristics of burdens

  1. Burdens separates us
  2. They come with their own rules and regulations.
  3. Burdens need faith
  4. They are not handouts; they affect the type of person you become

How do you sustain burdens?

  1. Give yourself to council and knowledge
    • Every burden the lord will provide; the lord will bring the resources on your way.
  2. Godly Associations.
    • How do you know that this is a wrong association?
      • if they have never been honest with you or corrected you.
      • If you are the greatest person in all your associations
    • Find people who are likeminded, else you’ll lose it.
  3. Time in his presence
    • This maybe the time to be and start doing the so called “foolish things”
    • Time to put the swag down, put the wig down. See you’ve held on to it but your life is not changing, put it down.
    • Prayer stops when there’s a note of victory; not by the number of hours you’ve spent.

Our destiny is a culmination of different burdens; guard them, guard your destiny.

(3) Others

  • Throughout the scriptures, the lord admonishes us to think about others. It is kingdom minded, to always look beyond yourself.  Most people don’t think about others because they don’t think highly about themselves. We’ve tackled this on the first point that; elevate how you look at yourself to how God looks at you.
  • In pursuit to minister to others, you’ll always be ministered to. A man that can feed 5000 people can’t die with hunger.
  • In Numbers 32:1-7, Moses rebuked the children to Reuben and Gad because they only thought about themselves and had no regard for others.
  • Another beautiful example is Esthers story, when we read it from Chapter 2-4. We see how she arose to be the queen, and the king at that time declared to kill all the jews when she was queen. Mordecai made several attempts to communicate with Esther on what she could do as queen, to think about other, Esther 4:14, Mordecai tells her that if she doesn’t help, the lord will send help from another place. Esther could’ve kept quiet, her life was sorted but she acted on Mordecai’s instruction.
  • Perhaps we don’t pray as much anymore because our prayer request was answered, and we have no regard for other people prayer request’s. They could use our faith, if it produced results in our lives, it would also produce results in their lives.

Conclusion

You’ve always been Gods dream; To love you and have a relationship with you.

It’s through that relationship we get to think about his kingdom; participate in his agenda because we love him too.
