By All Means, Win Some
To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. 1Corinthians 9:22
Recurrent Thought
We usually fail to win Souls because we don’t want to obey God and we don’t want to invest what it takes to do it
It is a fact that lots of believers are negligent on the task of winning souls and discipling believers. The reasons are many, including carelessness, being intimidated, and disobedience to the heavenly vision. The Context of this text is about the care of the workers in God’s vineyard. Paul insists that the minsters of the Gospel must be taken care of just as cattle that treads corn is never denied to eat from the very corn it works on. Paul as a tentmaker, however, boasted in the fact that he did not demand of this privilege and right.
He insisted on this practice, for he did not want people to view it as a business. He did not want people to think he priced and charged for the gospel. Therefore, preaching the Gospel without getting any support, implies there is stronger burden and reason pushing him to do it (1 Cor. 9:18).
Paul was burdened by his Faithfulness to the apostolic function. He was called and sent to win others and to set up communities (Churches) under which the believers would grow and mature. He was equally consumed with a clear apostolic ambition, to preach Christ where he had never been preached. He understood that God sent him to preach the Gospel, and if he did not do it, then many would have no opportunity to hear the gospel.

In this text we see Three Traits of an Effective Soul Winner
- They are Consumed by Obedience to the Task of Winning Souls (9:16-18)
- We are under orders to preach Christ; Woe unto me if don’t preach the Gospel (9:16)
- I must have a high sense of obedience to follow his orders; woe into me if I don’t obey him.
- For this reason, I am prepared to preach it without any compensation; any recognition, any accolades. It is my responsibility
- To Win Souls is a Trust God gives to Christ-devoted followers (9:17)
- However, I do it: Whether with compensation or not, I must be faithful to the Trust as a Steward.
- Effective Soul Winners are driven with desire to see people come to know Jesus
- They Sit Where people are Found (9:19-23)
- Be incarnational. Fit in the environment without losing Your soul
- Be like a Jew, be like a Gentile as you aim to win them
- Be relational, to those you want to win to Christ
- You don’t have to totally be immersed in a new culture; but be sympathetic to the people you are reaching
- Be Relevant to the culture you are ministering
- Sit where people are, for the sake of winning some for Jesus;
- Serve people as a servant and win them to the Lord (19)
- To Win Souls, Sit where You find People
- They Maintain a Disciplined and Focused life (9:24-27)
- The discipline lifestyle is for the sake of souls.
- Just as an athlete works hard to disciple themselves in becoming strong withing their discipline
- Be conscious daily about the eternal state of people. People without Christ are heading to eternal damnation, and therefore, be disciplined to pray for them;
- Be discipline in scheduling times to share Christ to others. If you don’t plan it, it will likely not happen
- Be focused about the business of souls: Don’t box aimlessly (9:26)
- To Win some, invest in the task, be focused about it
