Praying for Ukraine
• Ukraine’s location as a gateway between East and West has left it vulnerable throughout history. The Russian invasion of 2022, support for breakaway regions, the occupation of Crimea, and past events like the Euromaidan and the Orange Revolution highlight Russia’s attempts to dominate Ukraine and Ukraine’s determination for freedom. The ongoing conflict has displaced millions and caused immense loss of life, with rebuilding likely to take decades. Beyond the physical devastation, healing trauma and fostering reconciliation will be even more challenging.
Pray for God’s intervention to bring an end to the conflict, as He is the One who makes wars cease (Psalm 46:9).
Pray Psalm 10:17-18 over Ukraine, asking the Lord to hear the cries of the afflicted, encourage them, and bring justice.
Pray for wisdom and strength for Ukraine’s leaders and its people as they navigate these difficult times.
• Ukraine has a strong Christian heritage, with evangelicals emerging resilient and growing despite 130 years of intense persecution that claimed millions of Christian lives. While religious freedom has improved, it still falls short of being fully preserved in law and practice. The Church faces both challenges and opportunities in this context.
Pray for reconciliation between Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant Christians, overcoming centuries of strife. Ask God to heal divisions created during the Soviet era between collaborators and resisters.
Pray that all believers and leaders demonstrate Christ’s love, even to enemies, resisting hatred and bitterness in the face of suffering.
Pray for sensitivity and grace as newer churches, with their dynamic approaches and diverse leadership, integrate with more traditional groups.
Ask for wisdom to blend the spiritual fervor of newer churches with the rich heritage of traditional ones, creating a united and vibrant Church.
Pray for resilience and adaptability as churches rebuild after the disruptions caused by the Russian invasion.
Pray for effective training, infrastructure, and facilities to enable vibrant Christian ministry and church growth.
Pray that the Church seizes opportunities to minister holistically and compassionately in this time of crisis.
Ask for God’s provision to help Christians serve as His hands and feet, bringing both practical aid and spiritual hope to those in need.
