Largest Religion: Hindu, 74.3 %

% Evangelical: 2.2 %

Population: 1,441,719,852

Continent: Asia

  1. Pray for the urgent training of Christian workers in India, including pastors, teachers, evangelists, and missionaries. Ask God to expand the efforts of over 100 degree-level seminaries and 1,000 Bible schools. Pray for effective and creative training models that equip leaders with practical skills like church planting and discipleship. Seek God's guidance for the Indian Church to impact the workplace, business, politics, arts, and culture, and for all Christians to be effective ambassadors for Christ in society.
  2. General Unreached Statistics: India has 133 out of 159 major people groups unreached, plus hundreds of smaller groups. Of 953 ethnic groups over 10,000 people, 205 have no church and little outreach. Pray for effective, loving, and creative approaches to reach each of these groups with the gospel.
    • Brahmin: The highest Hindu caste, with over 50 million people, but only about 18,000 Christians. They are highly influential but have seen few focused evangelistic efforts.
    • Forward Castes: Groups such as the Rajput (43m), Mahratta (29m), Hindu Jat (16m), and others. These castes often view Christians negatively and require sensitive, well-prepared ministry approaches.
    • Backward Castes: Represent 27-52% of India’s population. Notable groups include Yadava (59m), Kurmi (17.9m), Teli (17.9m), and others. Most are less than 0.1% Christian.
    • Scheduled Castes/Dalits: Some have responded to the gospel, but many groups like Dhobi (12.6m), Mahar (9.1m), and Pasi (7.5m) remain less than 0.1% Christian.
    • Scheduled Tribes: Many remain unevangelized or underevangelized. The Bhil (14.5m) and Gond (14.1m) have some churches but are only around 1% Christian. The Koli (12.1m) are 0.3% Christian.
    • Unreached and Unengaged People Groups: There are 485 groups with populations over 10,000 that are unreached and unengaged, almost three-quarters of the world's groups in this category.
  3. Pray for the 5 million blind people and 70 million visually impaired in India, comprising nearly 40% of the world’s total. Intercede for better healthcare access, as 70% of these cases are preventable. Pray for the effective use of Braille and support the ministries of Mission to the Blind, India Fellowship for Visually Handicapped, and Torch Trust for the Blind. Lift up Compass Braille, which produces Braille Scriptures, and ask for the increased distribution of Christian audio resources like Mega voice and Proclaimer to reach and disciple the blind community.
  4. Pray for the nearly 30 million Indian diaspora spread across 130 countries. Lift up those in the Americas (USA, Canada, Trinidad, Suriname), Europe (UK, France), Africa (South Africa, Mauritius), the Pacific (Fiji, Australia), Asia (Nepal, Malaysia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Singapore), and the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Oman). Pray for their influence in business, technology, and culture in their adopted lands and their impact on communities in India. Ask for openness to the gospel, especially among first-generation immigrants, and for successful outreach efforts in countries like South Africa, USA, Canada, Mauritius, and the Middle East. Pray for Indian missions to reach diaspora communities and for diaspora Christians to be envisioned to reach out to India.
