1. Zimbabwe faced years of seemingly unending national emergencies.Hyperinflation was so bad that Zimbabwe’s own currency was rendered worthless, and people only used money from other nations. Pray for God to restore this once-prosperous land and to use His people to bring relief to the decades of suffering.
2. Zimbabwe faces one of the world’s worst HIV/AIDS challenges. Around 1 million AIDS orphans need care, and, at one point, over 2,000 people died from AIDS-related illness each week. Pray for wisdom to help the nation cope with this great loss of life. Pray for churches to engage with the moral, spiritual, and economic effects of AIDS.
3. Pray for the Zimbabwean church to be exemplary in their social actions in helping the vulnerable in the nation (including the sick, the orphaned and the poor)
4. Some denominations have compromised their testimony by blindly endorsing specific political parties; others have spoken against government policies and suffered for it. Pray for an amicable relationship between the church and the government.
5. Divisions and splits still occur, especially within Apostolic and charismatic groups. The gap separating evangelicals, mainliners and African Independent Churches (AICs) makes collaborative efforts difficult at a time when a unified mission of the Church is greatly needed.
